  Environmental Heterogeneity Drives Within-Host Diversi?cation and Evolution of Pseudomonas aeruginosa
Microbial population polymorphism was observed in samples isolated from chronically infected cystic fibrosis airways. Hierarchical clustering of catabolic performance data from Biolog Phenotype MicroArrays was able to divide the strains into four principal clusters. Results reflect a structured and complex host environment that bacteria respond to.

  PafR, a Novel Transcription Regulator, Is Important for Pathogenesis in Uropathogenic Escherichia coli
Genes correlating with clinical syndromes were deleted and found to be impaired in a mouse model of infection.  Carbon sources in Phenotype MicroArrays were tested for their ability to induce GFP from the pafR promotor.  Results suggested the promotor is mildly responsive to maltose consistent with the genes being in-vivo induced.  These and other results showed the importance of these genes in pathogenesis and virulence.
